5 Way 2 Position Pneumatic Solenoid Valve Working Principle
As to the 5-way 2-position pneumatic solenoid valve, the two-position means that two positions, on and off, are controllable; the five-way means there are five ports for air flow, namely one inlet (inlet air source), one positive-action outlet and one reverse-action inlet (one positive-action air source and one reserve-action air source for the target equipment, respectively), one positive-action exhaust vent and one reverse-action exhaust vent (installed with the silencer). The 5/2-way solenoid valve is usually used together with the double-acting cylinder.
The 5/2-way pneumatic solenoid valve coil voltage grade usually adopts DC12 V, DC 24V, AC 110V, and AC 220V.
The 5-way 2-position pneumatic solenoid valve can be divided into the single electronic control and the double electronic control (namely the single solenoid and the double solenoid). The single control model just has one solenoid, while the double control model has two solenoids - one is known as the positive-acting coil and the other as the negative-acting coil. (The positive and negative are relative to each other.) The valve structure and movement principle of the single solenoid control and the double solenoids control do not vary from each other greatly. However, compared with the single solenoid valve, the double solenoid valve has an advantage, that is, it requires no long-term power-on. One short-pulse signal is enough to lengthen the solenoid valveās service life.
Working principle of 5/2 pneumatic single solenoid valve
When the 5-way 2-position pneumatic solenoid valve (single solenoid control) is not power on, the valve core, affected by the installed spring force from one side of the valve body, reclines to one side of the pilot head. The gas circuit maintains its original state and makes no exchange.
When the 5/2-way pneumatic single solenoid valve is powered on, the magnetic power is generated to open the pilot head. At the moment, the air supply pressure of the solenoid valve inlet enters the chamber on the other side of the valve core. The two sides of the solenoid valve are subject to the spring force and air supply pressure.
In the process of design, the pneumatic solenoid valve should ensure the spring force to be smaller than the air supply pressure. At the moment, the valve core moves towards the spring direction, resulting in external squeezing of the spring. Because of changes with the valve core position within the valve body, the gas circuit is also changed.
Working principle of 5/2-way pneumatic double solenoid valve
Power on the positive-action coil of the double solenoid valve, and the positive-action gas circuit will be connected with the power (or the positive-action outlet has the gas flow). Even if the positive-action coil is disconnected with power, the gas circuit is still connected with the power and remains until electrification of the reverse-action solenoid valve.
If the reverse-action coil is powered on, the reverse-action gas circuit is connected with power (or the reverse-action outlet has the gas flow). Even if the reverse-action coil is disconnected with power, the reverse-action gas circuit is connected with the power, which will remain until electrification of the positive-action coil. This is similar to "self-locking".
Based on the above characteristic of the two-position and five-port solenoid valve, during design of the electromechanical control circuit or compilation of PLC, the solenoid valve coil can move for one to two seconds. This can effectively protect the solenoid valve coil from being easily damaged.
