Steam Solenoid Valve vs. Water Solenoid Valve
The steam solenoid valve and the water solenoid valve are two commonly-seen medium solenoid valves. To learn their differences can help us select the right product type.
Steam Solenoid Valves
The steam solenoid valve refers to the solenoid valve with the steam as the medium. The steam can be divided into two types: boiler steam - saturated steam and steam from the thermal plant - superheated steam. The saturated steam has relatively steady temperature and pressure. The temperature is lower than 250℃, and the working pressure is lower than 1.6Mpa. The superheated steam has dramatic changes of temperature and pressure. The maximum temperature can reach above 400℃, and the working pressure is lower than 4.0Mpa.
The steam solenoid valve generally has the following characteristics: heat resistance, abrasion resistance and condensation resistance. The steam temperature usually ranges from 100℃ to 350℃. The electromagnetic part and sealing elements of steam solenoid valve adopt the special high-temperature electric materials and sealing materials, and use various heat-insulating measures for it. The metal hard sealing is applied to improve the steam solenoid valve operating temperature and service life. The steam solenoid valve cup and the orienting sleeve make use of the fluid's lubricating function to reduce abrasion and shorten service life.
Water solenoid valves
The water solenoid valve is applicable to the working medium, such as water or other liquids, to automatically control or realize remote control of the switch-on and switch-off of the working medium, such as water, hot water, cold water and waste water. It is applicable to the clean water transmission pipelines from different departments, such as dyeing and printing, clear water, electricity, petroleum, chemistry, metallurgy, textile, food, ship-building, medical care, environmental protection, and urban sectors. With the water solenoid valve, automatic control of the medium in the water transmission pipeline system can be realized, so it is an ideal choice for automatic control of the water transmission pipelines.
The water solenoid valve has the following characteristics:
1. Sealing form
Generally, the steam solenoid valve adopts the metal hard sealing, and the water solenoid valve adopts the rubber soft sealing.
2. Valve body materials
The valve body of the steam solenoid valve generally adopts the stainless steel or cast steel materials. However, the solenoid valve has a wider range of options, including cast iron, cast steel, stainless steel and brass.
3. The steam solenoid valve can resist against high temperature of above 150℃, while the water solenoid valve can resist against high temperature below 150℃.

The water solenoid valve has the following characteristics:
- The water solenoid valve generally adopts the rubber sealing. It can largely reduce the cleanness of the working medium, accelerate switch-on and switch-off, and improve reliability.
- The water solenoid valve is usually anti-corrosion, and can adopt cast iron, cast steel, stainless steel and brass.
- The water solenoid valve is usually maintained at the normal pressure and temperature, and does not adopt the anti-explosion setting.
