Testing 12V DC Solenoid Valve of Solar Heating System
The solenoid valve of solar water heater has the following two main functions:
One is to replaces the manual hydration switch or gate valve, which is controlled by the solar intelligent measuring and controlling instrument to achieve automatic water refill.
Another is to play a role of a water releasing valve when performing the automatic water venting. Solar water heater solenoid valves are generally divided into two major types: pressure valves and pressureless valves.
In the process of installation and use, solenoid valve fault occurs from time to time. The failure phenomenon usually shows as no inlet water or uncontrolled inlet water. When repairing, press the button of inlet water first to check if the solenoid valve is operating or not, or turn off the power supply directly and listen to the sound of water flowing or see if the water meter is still running. From these, check the state of the solenoid valve. If the state is abnormal, the following testing for solenoid valve can be carried out.
First, disconnect a wire on one of the terminals which links the controller to the 12V DC solenoid valve. Start the water inlet function of the controller, and use the DC 50V gear of multimeter to measure the voltage of the solenoid valve voltage output terminal on the controller. If the voltage is between 9V and 15V, it indicates that the controller is normal; otherwise the controller has a fault. If the measured voltage is normal, the problem may be on the wire and solenoid valve.
Next, disconnect any one of the solenoid valve terminal wire, and measure the resistance between the terminals of the solenoid valve with the multimeter Rxi gear. If the measured resistance is around 40Ω, it means normal. If the resistance is very large, it indicates the coil inside the solenoid valve is open-circuit. If the resistance value is small, the internal solenoid is short-circuited. If the coil is open or shorted, it needs to be replaced with a new solenoid valve.
The electrical connection lines of the solar water heater are long, many parts are bending, and some partial lines are placed outdoors. Therefore, it is also necessary to check whether the relevant connection wires are normal during the actual maintenance. Disconnect all the terminals of the wires, use a multimeter to measure the resistance between the wires (the normal should be ∞) and whether the same wire is good (the normal should be 0Ω).
In addition, the 12V DC solenoid valve is located in a low-voltage start-up line. Once the wire somewhere bad contact or leakage of electricity, the solenoid valve may not work. Therefore, it is necessary to check whether the connector of each wire is in good contact.
For the solenoid valve in up-and-down working condition, it is generally difficult to use a multimeter to check if the connecting wire is in good condition. At this time, you can replace the solenoid valve or replace the wire for a trial.
